Hema-Fast Staining Directions

Using a staining rack, slides may be stained either singly using forceps or in groups.

  1. Arrange the blood film in a staining rack. Dip the rack slowly in Solution #1 five times with a duration of about one to two seconds per dip. Drain on absorbent paper.

  2. Transfer the entire rack to Solution #2, dip slowly five times as in previous step. Drain on absorbent paper.

  3. Transfer the entire rack to Solution #3, dip slowly five times as in previous step.

  4. Rinse slide or rack under running tap water and allow slides to air dry or dry with dryer.

Note that since the stain is a three part system, some variation may be obtained by changing individual technique. By varying the number of dips in Solution #2 or #3, different intensity of reds and blues may be obtained.
